Online Chartering Tips

It's time for chartering units for next year. Here are a few tips to help make the process go smoother and maybe even save some money

  • Accessing the online rechartering system
    • Go to utahscouts.org/recharter
    • Recharter codes have been emailed to the COR of each unit
    • Erik can provide codes if you need them
  • Adding youth who have been Scouts in the past
    • Use a paper registration form instead of the online registration system
    • Be sure to include their BSA ID to avoid the $25 new member fee
    • Erik can look up BSA IDs for youth
  • Adding adults who have been registered in the past
    • Use a paper form instead of the online registration system
    • Do NOT use old adult registration forms. They have the incorrect background check authorization form.
    • Contact Erik for a PDF application form that can be filled out on the computer then printed to be turned in
  • If you need assistance with rechartering contact your Unit Commissioner or Erik

Sub-For-Santa Service Project

The Old Ephraim District is doing a district wide service project this year for the Cache County Sub for Santa organization. Each year Sub For Santa receives a number of donated bikes which are then fixed up and repaired by Aggie Blue Bikes to a good, workable condition. The intention is to give these bikes to children of families in the area who otherwise could not afford a bike for Christmas. In order to give the bikes to a family, they need to include a new bike helmet as well. Due to safety issues, these helmets must be new (not used) which obviously creates a significant expense for the organization.

Our district has decided to help out by collecting new, unused bicycle helmets to be given with the bikes to children that need them. Donated helmets can be dropped of on either December 7th or 8th, 2020 at the east doors of the Bridgerland Technical College-West Campus between 9 am and 6 pm. Call 435-754-9216 when you arrive and someone will come out to collect the donations.

Hybrid Virtual ILST/ILSC Now Available

Are you wanting to do a leadership training course for your troop or crew but trying to avoid getting a group together indoors due to Covid concerns?
In response to the needs of Youth Leaders in Troops and Crews, Scouting U has released two new virtual training programs for Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST), and Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews(ILSC). Trainees will complete two modules online on their own, then join together in a virtual meeting to complete Module 3 together. These new temporary instructional training programs are available by logging onto https://my.scouting.org and launching the BSA Learn Center. When the Learn Center opens you can select the Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST) or Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews (ILSC) from Programs as applicable to you.
In the Programs are two Learning Plans, Introduction and Tools of Leadership.  Participants will need to complete both.  When selecting a Learning Plan, it will open with a description and course listing – click the Enroll Button to record completion progress.  For courses within the Learning Plan simply click the Start button and take the course until completed.  Both the Learning Plans and Course will show the percentage of completion.
Module 1(Introduction) is a brief five-minute introduction to the organizational structure of the unit. In Module 2 (Tools of Leadership) participants will spend approximately 36 minutes learning about the Tools of Leadership. Designed to help Scouts and Crew members develop their leadership, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Specific topics include Creating a Vision, Goal Setting, Communication, Planning and Delegation, and the Stages of Team Development. Upon completion of these two modules, a certificate of completion will be available, and should be printed for their Unit Leader. The completion certificate allows Scouts an opportunity to complete the third and final module in a virtual online environment.

Using a Zoom or similar online video conferencing program, Module 3 provides Scouts an opportunity to virtually interact with their fellow Scouts and leaders to expand and integrate their leadership expertise. Topics covered in the final one-hour module, includes Team Development and Characteristics, Group Decisions, Leadership Styles and Tools, Ethics and Values and the EDGE method.
Unit leaders interested in offering this new Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops and Crews can contact ils2020materials@gmail.com to request the directions, PowerPoint, and Script for Module 3.

Raffle tickets will be $1 each and will be available as you arrive at the event and sign the roll. For $10, raffle participants will receive an extra ticket (for a total of 11 entries).

For those who cannot attend in-person at Roundtable, we invite them to also participate in this good cause. Scouters can purchase raffle entry tickets via Venmo by sending their money to the District Commissioner (Venmo username: Rick-Larkin-2, Venmo email: rclarkin@gmail.com, Venmo phone #: 4357703382). If they need another platform (such as Zelle or PayPal, they can email the District Commissioner at scouter.rcl@gmail.com to make arrangements).
This Roundtable will NOT be broadcast as a Zoom meeting, though we are planning on recording the training portion of the meeting for later posting.

We look forward to meeting in-person with everyone and are asking that all attendees wear masks and observe proper social distancing during this activity. We will do all that we can to make this a safe and fun activity for everyone!

Welcome to the new Old Ephraim blog

Welcome to the Old Ephraim District blog page! Over the past few months there have been many changes in Scouting in our area. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints stopped chartering units on the first of January, the Elk Horn and Old Juniper districts were merged to create the Mt Naomi district, the Trapper Trails, Great Salt Lake and Utah National Parks councils were merged to create the Crossroads of the West Council and the Mt Naomi district was merged with several others to create the Old Ephraim district. All of these changes took place while we also experienced a worldwide virus pandemic, an earthquake,  and a complete shutdown and quarantine of the entire country. Yet through all of those challenges, Scouting continues in our area. We may be smaller in numbers, but the program and the value it brings to our communities continues on.

We appreciate the patience and commitment of all of the volunteers in our new district area. The program doesn't happen without dedicated people willing to work through the challenges and hardships to bring the values of Scouting to our youth. As a district we hope to provide the resources and support you need to create and operate successful, effective scouting programs. Let us know what you need and how we can help you to accomplish that. At some point the challenges we currently face will let up and we can face the future with a greater determination and strength. We look forward to helping Scouting grow in our district as each of you work to create exciting, challenging and fun programs that will attract the attention of the youth and inspire them with a desire to be a part of something wonderful!
